The World Heart Foundation is organising World Heart Day, an international initiative to educate people about cardiovascular diseases, the leading cause of death, held on September 29. The day supports preventive steps to reduce cardiovascular disease risk.
Significance
The day seeks to demonstrate the steps that can be taken by individuals to avoid and monitor cardiovascular diseases. It aims to inform individuals and to push action to manage risk factors. When such habits are kept in check, many premature deaths from heart failure may be prevented.
The World Heart Federation has continued to support this annual event since the first World Heart Day, gathering and distributing information and declaring a theme for the day each year. Public talks, podcasts, posters, and leaflets communicate the data. There are free health inspections, rides, marches, concerts, fund raising, and numerous other activities held in conjunction with World Heart Day. On this day, scientific meetings and gatherings are also held.

During the pandemic, the World Heart Day 2020 theme focuses on taking care of one’s heart. In the world, cardiovascular diseases claim the largest number of lives.
Smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, air pollution, and rare and untreated disorders such as Chagas disease and cardiac amyloidosis are numerous causes. The aim of this World Heart Day 2020 is to make people conscious during the pandemic of taking care of their hearts. People with cardiovascular conditions should take special care of themselves during the current pandemic to remain healthy.
