The Metropolitan Museum of Art, often called the “MET,” is in New York City and is one of the largest art museums in the United States.

Its collection has over two million works of art from antiquity to modern times, consisting of paintings, sculptures, musical instruments, costumes, and accessories, and antique weapons and armor from around the world.

The National Gallery of Art and its attached Sculpture Garden is the national art museum in Washington, D.C., located on the National Mall.

The museum was initially privately established in 1937 for the American people by a joint resolution of the United States Congress. Andrew W. Mellon donated a substantial art collection and funds for construction.

The Gallery’s collection of paintings, drawings, prints, photographs, sculptures, medals, and decorative arts traces the development of Western Art from the Middle Ages to the present.

Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is one of the largest museums in the United States. Founded in 1870, the museum moved to its current location in 1909.

The museum is affiliated with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts. It has more than 450,000 works of art, some highlights of the collection include Egyptian, French impressionist, and post-impressionist Art, Chinese Art, Japanese works, 18th, and 19th-century American Art.

Getty Museum, Los Angeles

The J. Paul Getty Museum, commonly called the Getty Museum, is an art museum housed on two campuses: the Getty Center and Getty Villa.

The Getty Center is in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, and the collection features Western art from the Middle Ages to the present.
