Museums in Perth, Australia
Perth is the capital of Western Australia and the fourth-most populous city in Australia. The first areas settled were on the Swan River, with the city’s central business district and port of Fremantle both located on its shores.
Perth was founded in 1829 as the administrative centre of the Swan River Colony and the city is named after Perth, Scotland. The city’s population increased substantially as a result of the Western Australian gold rushes in the late 19th century. An influx of immigrants after the war led to rapid population growth and continued to grow in more recent times due to a surge in economic growth flowing several mining booms.
Perth has some great museums which provide a unique sample of the history and art of Western Australia and its place in the world.
