The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design is the national museum of art of Norway. It was established through a merger of the Norwegian Museum of Architecture, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Gallery of Norway, and the National Touring Exhibitions.
National Gallery (Norway)
The National Gallery was established in 1842 and was originally located in the Royal Palace and then moved to a dedicated museum building in 1882.
Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art
The Norwegian Museum of Contemporary Art was established in 1988 as a museum for art produced after World War II. In 1992, the National Touring Exhibitions was separated as an independent entity.
Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design
The Norwegian Museum of Decorative Arts and Design has a collection which includes clothing, textile, furniture, silver, glass, ceramics, and handicrafts. The collection will be part of the new museum when this opens in 2020.
