Jakarta is the capital and largest city of Indonesia, which was formerly known as Batavia during the Dutch East Indies. Located on the world’s most populous island of Java, Jakarta is the center of economics, culture, and politics of Indonesia.
Established in the fourth century as Sunda Kelapa, the city became an important trading port, which has flourished to become a mega-city with this long history. With its rich culture, Jakarta has many museums and historic sites of interest.
