Indonesia Museums

Indonesia is a transcontinental country located mainly in Southeast Asia and situated between the Indian and Pacific oceans. It is the world’s largest island country, with more than thirteen thousand islands.

Indonesia, the world’s 4th largest population, as well as being the largest Muslim-majority country.

The Indonesian archipelago has been an important region for trade with Chinese dynasties and Indian kingdoms. Local rulers absorbed foreign cultural, religious, and political models with several Hindu and Buddhist kingdoms flourishing early.

Muslim traders and scholars brought the now-dominant Islam, while European powers brought Christianity and fought to monopolize trade in the Spice Islands.

Following three and a half centuries of Dutch colonialism, at times interrupted by Portuguese, French, and British rule, Indonesia secured its independence after World War II.

Indonesia consists of hundreds of distinct native ethnic and linguistic groups, with the Javanese’s largest ethnic group.

A shared identity has developed, defined by a national language, and with this diverse history and culture, Indonesia has many museums and historical sites of interest.
