In India, in 1991 the First Doctors Day was celebrated. The birth and death anniversary of India’s most famous physician, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, happens July 1. Therefore it is a nod to his contributions to the country’s health domain.
He was born on July 1, 1882, and died in 1962 on the same date, aged 80. He is one of few people in history who jointly received FRCS and MRCP degrees.
On February 4, 1961, Dr Roy was honoured with the highest civilian award in the world, Bharat Ratna. Doctors’ Day celebration is an opportunity to highlight the importance of physicians in our lives and give them our gratitude by commemorating one of their greatest leaders.
National Doctor’s Day is celebrated for years by healthcare organisations from the government and non-government. To familiarize yourself with feedback from the physicians. Workshops for training, free medical check-up camps, test camps for general screening are organized throughout the world. School- and college-level events are also planned to inspire young people to take up the medical profession. Patients welcome their physicians by handing out greeting cards, presents, bouquets, and so on.
National Doctors day in India is a big awareness campaign offering great opportunities to all to get aware of the roles, importance, and responsibilities of the doctors as well as promote medical professionals to come closer and follow the responsibilities of their profession very dedicatedly.
World Health Day-7th AprilEvery year, the National Doctor’s Day is organized under the slogan “Zero tolerance of violence against doctors and clinical establishment,” last year. The theme of this year has yet to be revealed, but we can presume it will be about the pandemic we are going through.
Though Doctor’s Day is observed on different dates across the world, in the United States, it is observed on March 30, on August 23 in Iran and in Cuba on December 3.
