Kimbell Art Museum

The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, hosts a permanent art collection as well as traveling art exhibitions. The European collection is the most extensive in the museum.

The Museum’s goal is absolute excellence, not the size of the collection. Following this goal, the museum’s collection today consists of about 350 quality works of art.

It includes Michelangelo’s first known painting, also works by Duccio, Fra Angelico, Mantegna, El Greco, Carracci, Caravaggio, Rubens, Guercino, La Tour, Poussin, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Boucher, Gainsborough, Vigée-Lebrun, Friedrich, Cézanne, Monet, Caillebotte, Matisse, Bonnard, Mondrian, Braque, Miró, and Picasso.

Works from the classical period include antiquities from Ancient Egypt, Assyria, Greece, and Rome.

Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth focuses on post-World War II Art with a permanent collection of over 3,000 works. The museum was first granted a Charter in 1892 as the “Fort Worth Public Library and Art Gallery.”

Today’s mission for the museum is: “collecting, presenting, and interpreting international developments in post-World War II art in all media.”

The current facility opened in 2002 and can showcases up to 150 works of art in its gallery space which features five long pavilions set into a reflecting pond.

The collection offers various movements, themes, and styles, including abstract expressionism, color field painting, pop art, and minimalism, figurative sculpture, and contemporary movements in photography, video, and digital imagery.

Amon Carter Museum of American Art

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art features paintings, photography, sculpture, and works on paper by leading artists working in the United States.

The museum’s painting collection focuses on the period from the 1820s through the 1940s. The collection is mainly focused on portrayals of the Old West and the exploration and settlement in American history.

The museum’s collection of photographs, prints, and other works on paper cover the period up to the present day.

The American photography collection consists of 45,000 exhibition-quality prints, dating from the earliest years of the medium to the present. 

The Amon Carter Museum of American Art opened in 1961 as the Amon Carter Museum of Western Art.
