Cape Town is a coastal city in South Africa and the second-most populous city in South Africa after Johannesburg. As the seat of the Parliament of South Africa, it is also the country’s legislative capital.
The city is famous for its harbor and its natural setting in the Cape Floristic Region and such well-known landmarks as Table Mountain and Cape Point.
Cape Town was first developed by the Dutch East India Company (VOC) as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India, and the Far East.
In 1652 the first permanent European settlement was established in South Africa. Until the Gold Rush and Johannesburg’s subsequent development, Cape Town was the largest city in South Africa.
With a long and diverse history and culture, South Africa has many fascinating museums and historical sites of interest.
