As for the red light district, even if you were staying within the area which you are not , there would be nothing to be concerned about. It is very safe and only covers 2 blocks. Should you be travelling with children, there are maybe 2 very small streets I would avoid by night , otherwise, the "Rue de Berne" ladies are part of the local scene.
In order to reassure travellers, I often point out that a primary school is just around the corner and the red light district has never been an issue. We stayed at the Edelweiss in June and saw absolutely nothing wrong with it. And as the previous poster just said, the primary school is just around the corner. The hotel is in a prime spot to walk easily to the lake. I didn't even know that the Edelweiss was close to the red-light district until we returned home and read about it.
The hotel is wonderful, definitely give it a try! I have the same question about Novotel Centre. Seem like it is close to the same rld as well. We would like to book Novotel in Christmas period as kids are free there. So is it good area for families?
The northern part of the Novotel is opposite the primary school I mentioned on the rue de Berne the main entrance is on the rue de Zurich. Whether you may plan to walk to the Cornavin railway station or in the opposite direction towards the lake, you can avoid the area all together. I'm looking forward to our vacation in Geneva.
Well as someone who has been living here for numerous years i really do advice you to pack a lot of warm things for november lots of hoodies, something for the rain but thrown in a t-shirt or a tanktop because the weather can suprise you.
