You probably know by now- Jay Z is putting on a two day concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway over Labor Day Weekend. Three stages, over 30 bands, Budweiser banners…it’s got nearly everything you would want from a Labor Day Weekend not spent at the Jersey shore. This week the line-up was announced and while it’s not necessarily eclectic, it’s fairly interesting and that mostly starts at the top. The Jigga man will be co-headlining the show with Pearl Jam. Yes, Pearl Jam. Raise your hand if you saw that one coming. It will be Pearl Jam’s first appearance in Philly since rocking the Spectrum so hard, they had to tear it down afterwards (not true, but should be true) a couple years ago.
Other acts announced are: Skrillex, Miike Snow, Odd Future, Passion Pit, Santigold, D’Angelo, Maybach Music (featuring Rick Ross, Wale and Meek Mill,) Janelle Monae and more. More acts will be announced and for Mayor Nutter, his Beyonce watch continues as there has been no word about her appearing. Tickets go on sale today.
But a few questions remain…
How on earth are they going to charge admission to a concert on the Ben Franklin Parkway? And how are they going to stop people that don’t have tickets from going? Last I checked, the Parkway is pretty long and pretty open. Yes there have been shows there before, but I don’t think many have been paying events. Is the majority of the event’s budget going towards bike barricade? Are ticket holders going to be given headphones so that any random passerby won’t be able to hear the music? I used to live by the Parkway and when there’s something going on there, you can hear it for blocks.
Jigga Man, if you’re reading this, feel free to respond because frankly, I’m a little concerned. While a bitch may not be one of your problems Mr. Carter, getting people to pay for your concert might definitely be one.
