Beyu Apparel is a clothing company that originated in 2009 to help individuals express issues on their minds. The company was created by Zuberi Morrison and has now expanded resulting in a duo collaboration with Terrence Fultz. Beyu Apparel was not solely originated to "inspire, enlighten, & empower" individuals but to represent the open minded youth of society. Designs promote making a differnence within the community and organizations. Each shirt has a word, phrase or statement are that exudes uniqueness.

After stumbling upon recent footage of Beyu's designs and inspirational messages I could not help but reach out. Intrigued by the the footage I inquired with Zuberi Morrison who allowed me to pick his brain. Check out our Q & A for Beyu Apparel to see what he had to say:

What does fashion mean to you?

Ironically fashion doesn’t mean too much to me personally. Of course I like to look nice but not enough to become enveloped in trends and the whole subculture of it. What I’m interested in is the impact that fashion can send. From it’s universal appeal to its influence on those masses.

Where do you get your inspiration?

My inspiration comes from everywhere and from nowhere. I think I have a little ADD so most things that I can sense throughout my day are intriguing to me. From the way two people on the street communicate to the color of that bus. It doesn’t matter, its all inspiration and when I say from nowhere I mean that idea that just seemed to organically blossom in your head. Like the thought was just given to you from somewhere else.

When did you realize you wanted to be a designer?

From day one or two I think. I don’t necessarily consider myself a designer but I’ve always had the ability and urge to create. As far as creating clothing then probably since middle school.

What is the first item you designed?

I think 6th & 7th grade I was creating bead necklaces with like a black & white anti-American Flag on it. Pretty dope. The kids older than me loved those. We used to sell them 1 for $5, 3 for $10. It’s crazy to think back to that now.

What is the best perk of being a designer?

Being able to wear your own clothes. I don’t like to over indulge in it but hey I make it.

How long does it take to construct a t-shirt?

Depending on the design it could be a day or week. I think what matters is how much inspiration is fueling the concept.

What are some of your accomplishments as a designer?

Being recognized where I’m from. I come from a town of broken dreams and to be recognized as someone making progress, it only gives me more fuel to keep on going.

Who is your target consumer?

Our target consumer is anyone that believes in freedom and individuality and the power that those things bring to themselves. Fortunately people that share these beliefs range across a variety of demographics.

Who are your favorite designers?

I’m not huge into fashion but I do appreciate designers that embrace originality in their fashion approach.

Where can we view and/or purchase your items?

Right now you can find and purchase our clothing on Beyumovement.com and also facebook.com/beyuapprel

Any advice for someone wanting a career in design?

Beyu! No pun intended. With any form of creation you have to dig deep into your soul and find what you wanna give the world.

What do you wish people understood about the fashion industry?

I wouldn’t know. I’m not in it for the clothes I'm in it for the message. Beyu. It’s not what you wear. It’s who you are

Beyu Apparel is an amazing brand with a brilliant message. Not just a trend but it is now a movement. The clothes incorporate our struggle as a society and are balanced with empowerment and sophistication. Please see check out the YouTube video and learn how you can be a part of this message.
