Philadelphia is no stranger to big-name chefs, but it is the city’s immigrant workforce that makes the Iron Chefs seem so invincible and allows the Top Chefs to stay on top. The invisible brigades that drive the city’s restaurants are tireless, highly skilled, and often never seen by the diners they serve.  Chef Jose Garces and his wife, Dr. Beatriz Garces, are shining the spotlight on the men and women who really are cooking your food with the First Annual Garces Family Foundation Gala at the Kimmel Center on Wednesday, October 10.

The Gala will support the area’s immigrant population in funding much-needed healthcare and nutritional programs. Raised funds will support Puentes de Salud (Bridges of Health), whose co-founder and executive director, Steven Larson, will be the event’s honoree.

The VIP portion of the evening begins at 6PM atop the Dorrace H. Hamilton Rooftop Garden, where some of the city’s most acclaimed chefs (including Marc Vetri, Vetri; Michael Solomonov, Zahav; Jeff Michaud,Osteria; Jon Adams, Pub and Kitchen; Sylva Senat, Tashan; Kevin Sbraga, Sbraga; Terence Feury, Tavro 13; Pierre Calmels, Bibou; and more) will create a five course menu, as well as hors d’oeuvres for the cocktail reception.

General Admission begins at 7:30PM and every one of Iron Chef Garces’ restaurants will be on hand with libations and bites to fuel the carnival-like setting.  Music from Hip Philly, live flamenco performances, and live and silent auctions round out one of the most impressive food events of the year.  As a parting bonus, Rival Bros. Coffee Roasters and Guapo’s Tacos will be parked Kimmel-side for one last round of indulging before the ride home.
