ABSOLUT Lunch Break

Break out from the normality of your 9-5 grind and come to a DANCE PARTY during your lunch break.
Flavorpill and ABSOLUT’s Lunch Break hosts a daytime party that’s happening every week all summer long featuring DJs by Philly’s own Questlove. RSVP for this week’s event featuring DJ PHSH. Your RSVP puts you on the e-mail list, which you’ll receive a message telling you where Lunch Break is happening, which could be at any venue in the city. From 1 – 2 p.m., dance your butt off on your lunch hour and then leave with a FREE bagged lunch. Attendees are also encouraged to donate to the non-profit organization Philabundance. Go ahead and let wild, but don’t forget to brush your hair and tuck in that shirt before you go back to office.
Annual Beer Event at Fonthill Castle
Where: Fonthill Castle at Mercer Museum, 525 E. Court Street, Doylestown, PA
When:7pm-10pm
Cost: $28 for members, $35 for non-members
Get fancy with an evening of local beer, wine and food on the stretch of the historic Fonthill Castle in Doylestown. Enjoy drinks from small-town Pennsylvanian companies such as Free Will Brewing Company, Stonekey Winery, and Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, while noshing on a variety of salads, meats, cheeses, produce, and desserts. If you aren’t too full, you can end the night letting loose to Hot Bijouzz, a local band specializing in French-style swing music. Call Fonthill Castle to register at 215-348-9461.
Park on the Parkway Presents Rocky IV
Where: Eakins Oval, 26th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway
When: 8:30pm-11pm
Cost: Free
Come join The Oval, the new “Park on the Parkway,” with its final movie of the season of Rocky IV. Guests are welcome to come throughout the day for other free activities and programs, but the movie will begin at sundown. A variety of food trucks will also be in attendance. Can I get a “Yo Adrian!”
Saturday, August 17
The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Maker Celebration
Where: Parkway Central Library Lobby, 1901 Vine Street

Join in a celebration of Philadelphia’s makers as the Free Library of Philadelphia hosts a Maker Celebration at its Parkway Central branch. Throughout the summer, five Free Library locations have hosted Maker Education Initiative programming for children and teens, consisting of do-it-yourself classes that combine technology and art. This event will display their results along with 50 other Philadelphia-region artists, including Clay Studio and Girls Rock Philly. In addition, the celebration will unveil the Connection Message Project, a LED postcard and physical mural project created over the summer by the students of the Maker Education Initiative that express messages about Philadelphia.
20th Annual Festival of India
Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 Columbus Boulevard

As part of the PECO Multicultural Series, the Festival of India commemorates the country’s Independence Day while encouraging all cultures to join in the celebration. Attendees can enjoy delicious varieties of food, live music, unique art, special Bollywood performances, and more. Vendors will be selling traditional clothes, jewelry, crafts, and spices from different regions of the country.
PHSH TANK
Where: Kung Fu Necktie, 1250 N. Front St
When: 8pm-2am
Cost: $5
Come to this monthly simultaneous dance party and art show which takes place every 3rd Saturday at Kung Fu Necktie. From 8pm-11pm, enjoy an art exhibition by featured artist Nema Etebar on the 2nd floor and then head downstairs for a dance party spun by DJ PHSH. Must be 21+ to enter.
Sunday, August 18
27th Annual Caribbean Festival
Where: Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing, 101 Columbus Boulevard
When: 12pm-8pm
Cost: Free
Also part of PECO’s Multicultural Series At Penn’s Landing, attendees can experience the flavors and culture of the Caribbean along the Delaware River. Get down to the Philly PanStars, an authentic steel drum band, as well as other entertainment acts such as Image Band, Timi Tanzania, Sista Mafalda & the Kuumba Dancers, Limelite Band, True Voices, David Watki, and more. Even better, the celebration will raise money for college scholarships for students of Caribbean descent.
Joe’s and Jet: Cheesesteaks & Wine Dinner
Where: Joe’s Steaks + Soda Shop, 6030 Torresdale Avenue
