Foodies recently united at Alfa Bar on 17th and Walnut to enjoy a night of burgers, wine, and philanthropy. With a press tasting prior to the event hosted by author of “Brave New World of Wine: Pleasure, Value, and Adventure Beyond Wine’s Usual Suspects” and wine expert Mark Oldman, bloggers like myself enjoyed a sampling of six Duboeuf Beaujolais wines paired alongside gourmet burgers from 500 Degrees, Alfa Bar, Rouge and Spiga. Drinking Les Vins Georges Duboeuf with some of Philadelphia’s best burgers was best said by Oldman himself as “combining pleasure with pleasure.” Best tasted slightly chilled, the following Beaujolis wines were featured as part of the event: Beaujolais-Villages, Chiroubles, Brouilly, Fleurie, Morgon, and Juliénas Chateau des Capitans. The best part of these wines – they are extremely affordable (they all cost below $20), likeable (they are a great pivot wine for both white wine and red wine drinkers) and universal (you can find these wines almost anywhere). So next time you order a mouth-watering burger at a local Philly restaurant, try having a Beaujolais wine to compliment your meal!
After the press tasting, the public convened upstairs at The Walnut Room to enjoy a very similar burger and wine tasting while also helping to raise money for Philabundance in their quest to end hunger around Philadelphia. Photos of the event can be found below, and make sure to visit the main Georges Duboeuf website for more information on the wine itself.
